All of us work extremely hard to make money. So why should we sit and watch it slip by in the form of sky-rocketed power bills? Here is how we can build energy efficient homes, which would also benefit our environment:

Digital Programmable Thermostats

It is advisable for everyone to acquire digital programmable thermostats. This is because they can easily be programmed to standardize the temperature through the day, and with temperature regulation not much energy is used while you are out.

Insulation for Hot Water Heaters

Hot water heaters must be insulated. Water heaters these days are pretty much energy efficient, but one can still help by insulating the water heater in an insulation wrap. This helps save a lot of money that is wasted to heat up water.

Energy Star Qualified Light Bulbs

If you are using normal light bulbs, make sure that you change them to those qualified as “Energy Star”. It is believed that Energy Star qualified bulbs are about 75% more energy efficient than normal bulbs. Hence, if all of America starts using these bulbs, we can cut down significant amounts of carbon dioxide from our environment.

Leaky Ducts? Fix Them!

Every once in a while, check your duct work or get a professional to do so. About 20% of your home’s energy goes to waste because of leaky ducts.

Ceiling and Wall Insulation

It is necessary for your walls, ceilings etc to be insulated. Ceiling insulation is the most important out of all and is the simplest to install. Ceilings and walls are usually insulated whenever a house is built for augmenting energy efficiency, but if this is not the case with your home then it is important to get your ceiling insulated at least. On the other hand, wall insulations can only be installed if you get your place renovated.

Upgrade your fridge

It is time for an upgrade if your fridge is more than 10 years old. The EPA states that fridges these days are better for energy efficiency for which reason all of must upgrade our fridges and get rid of the old ones.

Solar Power

Solar power has gained much popularity in the past few years. Now with government rebates, it is pretty much affordable. You can easily mount a solar panel on the top of your house. It works by capturing energy and then converts it into power for your usage through an inverter. As obvious, this cuts down or even diminishes your energy costs. You can acquire either a battery solar system or a grid connected system. The difference between the two is that batter solar systems store power in batteries for you to use whenever the need be, whereas grid connected systems supply power to your grid, making it go backwards and then forward whenever you use power.

Not only do these simple efforts help you save money, they also help our environment in the long run. For this reason, we must all use energy efficient products around our homes.
