But many people don’t know how it actually works. Or even how to use it around their home. This article should help clear up for you how does solar energy work and its uses around your home.

The basic idea of using the suns power is actually pretty simple depending on what you plan to do with it.

If you want to make heat to help supplement your heating bill every winter you would have a solar panel or a passive solar heat collector that has tubing or water tanks inside of them. After the sun heats up the water it is then transferred into your home via water pipes for your use as hot water or to help supplement heating depending on how you set up your system.

To generate electricity using solar energy you would be using a different process with your solar panels. Instead of having tubing or a water container in your panels you have photovoltaic (solar) cells inside them. When the sunlight hits the panels the solar cells inside them are agitated and this movement is what actually generates electricity. It forms DC (direct current) electricity though, which isn’t usable by most homes. So then you would need an inverter to convert the power into AC (alternate current) electricity which is the most popular form of power today.

You can also use the suns direct heat to make a solar oven and make your meals. Many third world countries do this now to conserve their fossil fuels for other uses. There are a few different design types such as parabolic (think of an upside down umbrella with tinfoil on the inside to direct the suns rays to the center where your food sits in a pot) or the typical box type with a piece of glass on top of it to concentrate the sunlight inside where the food sits.

I hope this article gave you a good general idea of how does solar energy work around your home and the many ways you can use it. The difference between petrofuels and what we think of today as solar energy is that the former represents the sun’s energy that has been locked up in the form of carbon for hundreds of millions of years and is released when it is burned.

New technology such as solar photovoltaic cells make direct use of solar energy as it reaches the surface of the planet. Although this is virtually pollution-free and can ultimately provide virtual no-cost energy, there have been two major drawbacks to photovoltaic solar cells: cost and inefficiency. Solar cells have historically been exorbitantly expensive, and generate relatively little in the way of usable electrical power.

However, as has been the case with the personal computer, solar energy technology is undergoing rapid changes that allow solar voltaic cells to produce greater amounts of energy at much lower costs; barring interference from federal legislators and oil company lobbyists, it is very possible that within the next few years we will be able to generate electricity from solar panels for as little as .03c a kilowatt – about half of what folks are paying for hydro power in Washington State, where electricity is already inexpensive compared to the rest of the country.

One of the keys to this bright energy future is multijunction solar cells. These cells have multiple layers, each of which is “tuned” to a different part of the sun’s spectrum. As you may know, the sun’s rays are made up of different colors, which you can see through a prism or after a storm when water droplets in the atmosphere break up the spectrum, producing a rainbow. Each layer in one of these specialized cells captures part of the spectrum – which means they are able to capture more of the sun’s light and turn this into electricity.

The bottom line is efficiencies up to 40% – 4-3 times that of older types of solar panels.

Multijunction solar cells have been around for awhile, but until now, costs have been astronomical – literally. They have long been used for orbiting satellites (and are used on the Mars Rover as well), because their light weight went a long ways toward offsetting the cost of getting them into outer space. Today, scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy Renewable Energy Lab have achieved more than 40% efficiency using this technology, which is currently the record for such generation.

Wayne Hemrick writes about–<a

Numerous countries around the world have silicon mines. However, for the purpose of cheaper PV panel manufacturing, silicon is typically purchased from the countries with the most affordable prices, such as China and India. Solar manufacturing companies build the panels and sell them to solar resellers and installers, who resell the panels to the end-buyers. The end-buyers can save a large chunk of money if they can bypass the resellers/installers, and purchase the panels directly from the manufacturers.

As we mentioned above, silicon is the most commonly used material in solar manufacturing, so let’s learn more about this semiconductor. Pure silicon was isolated back in 1811 by French scientists. Silicon is the second most abundant material in the Earth’s crust (after oxygen): around 28% of the Earth’s crust consists of silicon. In a human, silicon can be found in the muscle tissue, bone tissue, and blood.

Pure silicon is obtained by restoring the melt of Silica (silicon dioxide) at a temperature of about 1800 degrees Celsius in electric furnaces. Purified silicon can be used in PV manufacturing, as well as it can be used for the production of purer polycrystalline silicon. Solar cells and panels manufactured from different types of silicon have varying efficiency rates: amorphous silicon – 5-7%, polycrystalline silicon – 13-15%, monocrystalline silicon – 14-17%.

Photovoltaic energy systems are ideal for electric power production, as they don’t pollute the air in the process of converting sunlight to electricity. Semiconductor-based PV energy systems have been quite expensive to produce. Ever since 1954, when the first cells were invented, researchers, governments, and PV manufacturers started working on reducing the photovoltaic module manufacturing expenses. PV modules are in a constant demand, which was somewhat slowed down during the economic world crisis only to pick up again as the world economy started to improve.

Today, governments and the entire solar panel industry keep on working hand in hand on improving and expanding domestic photovoltaic manufacturing. This helps to reduce the costs of various solar products, as well as it helps to create yet more powerful products.

There are various governmental projects intended to reduce the costs involved in the manufacturing of PV modules. These projects aim at improving the manufacturing processes, reducing costs, improving the products’ performance, and increasing the capacity of PV plants. One of such projects helped to reduce the U.S. manufacturing cost by over 50% from 1992 to 1996. This was achieved by improved material processing, automated module assembly, waste reduction, and the use of more advanced PV materials.

Domestic PV manufacturing is constantly expanding and improving, enabling customers around the world to make their solar module purchases at a lower price. Photovoltaic products are one of the best ways to preserve a cleaner environment using affordable domestic energy solutions.

Jakob Jelling is the founder of <a

WOW! Things have changed! Today it appears that everything we own runs on electric power. We have grown accustomed to having unlimited power that the majority never think about it over till something goes belly up or there’s a blackout. Unfortunately, those times have long passed. Electricity cost is fast inflating and we must take proactive action to reduce our power consumption. How does this power system work? This article is going to provide some information on the subject.

Photovoltaics solar cells are essentially solar cells that are used to generate an electric current. For maximum sun exposure, solar arrays are typically installed on the roof. The array will collect the sun energy and converts it to electric power. The power will be stored in deep cycle batteries for later consumption. All of our home electronic appliances run on AC.

By using photovoltaic solar cells, we can start to reduce our home electricity usage by tapping on free energy from the sun. You can build the solar array yourself or outsource it to a professional contractor. In a time of limited power supply and rising cost, any concepts that may help us to reduce cost needs to be explored further.

When you have learned how photovoltaic solar cells work, you may be well on your way to building and installing your own home-made solar power system.

The term photovoltaic comes from the Greek language and essentially means light. Voltage is, literally, light and electricity. The first photovoltaic solar cell group ( or, group of solar cells ) occupies a particularly significant area that has the power to generate usable, electrical energy from solar light sources. The way in which this group is able to collect the solar electricity is by sources such as strong rays of sun.

The second group of solar cells or photovoltaic solar cells material use very thin semiconductor deposits. Therefore the second step in new development is perhaps the most popular on the market today. In our own communities, as shoppers we look for potency, simplicity, and cost. All three are accepted more than others by average Yank clients, based on the latest reports.

The semiconductor does not rely on everyday systems of development. Instead, these photovoltaic devices include photoelectrochemical cells.

The difference may be extremely crucial, as far as how well your solar electricity generating device will best suits your needs.

Photovoltaic solar cells are made from silicon semiconductors, and when light strikes the cell, it is soaked up into the semiconductor material. The energy frees electrons letting them flow openly. This flow freely. This flow of electrons is a current, and by placing metal contacts on the top and bottom of the photovoltaic solar cells, electricity can be drawn off to be used externally.

Sammie thinks about going green all day long. The solar cells are the heart and soul of your solar panels and your whole solar power system. They determine how much power you will be getting and how much surface area you will need to create this power. If you are working with a limited amount of surface area, look for higher effiency solar cells.

When buying solar cells, there are three common types of cells on the market. Multicrystalline, Polycrystalline and Monocrystalline. All three types of cells are pretty equal as far as the effieciency goes. Monocrystalline cells tend to be less brittle. If you noticed, the corners are not there to break off during shipping. Shipping is kind of a “gray area” in the solar cell market for nonrefundable brakage. So if you need 12 solar cells, maybe order 14 just in case. This will also help if you have never worked with solar cells, you very well might break some yourself.

When looking to purchase, make sure the math adds up with the cells you are looking at. When I say math, I mean watts, amps, volts. Use Ohm’s Law. Ohm’s Law is: amps = watts/volts, volts = watts/amps, watts = volts*amps. If the math does not add up, there is something that the seller is not telling you or doesn’t know.

To purchase solar cells you can try doing a search. I found major suppliers (10,000+ orders) and solar panel companies on major search engines, but not much for small-mid solar cell orders. You can try www.SolarPhotovoltaicCells.net for small to mid sized orders. Let’s hope that in the future we can all say ”green killed oil”.

.

I am hoping for a greener world with less fees.

No related posts.
